Into The Night

If your reception space needs to be turned around to prepare for your evening celebrations, this is the perfect opportunity to step away from the flow of the day and capture some additional, more relaxed photographs. While guests are enjoying the transition, we can make the most of this quieter window to create beautiful, intentional images without the time pressure of the earlier parts of the day.

Depending on the time of year and the available daylight, we can also take advantage of the evening atmosphere outdoors. If we’re lucky enough to have a beautiful sunset, this is an ideal moment to step outside and capture portraits in soft, golden light. Evening light is incredibly flattering and often creates some of the most romantic and atmospheric images of the entire day. It’s also a lovely chance for the two of you to take a short breather together and soak everything in.

If you’d prefer to stay indoors or if the weather has other plans we can create stunning portraits using off-camera flash. This lighting technique produces a more dramatic, editorial feel, similar to what you might see in magazines. It allows us to craft stylish, polished images with depth, mood, and a touch of glamour, giving you a beautiful variety in your final gallery.

If your venue permits, this time can also be used for a sparkler send-off. Many couples love the magic and energy this creates, with guests forming a glowing pathway as you walk through together. Since most couples book coverage up until their first dance, I’m typically not present for the very end of the night or your actual departure. A sparkler send-off during this window is therefore a fantastic way to capture that joyful “grand exit” moment while everyone is still gathered and the energy is high.

TOP TIP

If you are purchasing sparklers - ensure you are choosing the longer sparklers. Short sparklers will last a couple of seconds and burn out very quickly. It is also key you have enough lighters to spark them and a safe way of extinguishing them (eg. sand bucket). Do not leave it up to your venue to provide this.

Let's Dance

Your dance floor can be some of the most energetic photos of your gallery. You two set the mood for your dance floor and your guests will be influenced to dance their hearts out if you are already doing just that.

Your first dance photos can be made really special if you request your guests watch from the perimeter of the dance-floor. Your wedding co-ordinator or band ask your guests to do so if you inform them in advance.

I will try and make sure there is time during the day for you to practice your first dance in your wedding outfits as you won't have had a chance prior to the day. I always encourage a little spin or a couple of kisses on the dance floor, even if you're not the biggest dancers. Give the people what they want!

As a wedding photographer, I understand that this day is once-in-a-lifetime for my clients, and there are no do-overs. Before I leave the wedding, I make it a priority to check in with you to ensure that I have captured everything you would have wanted. This careful attention guarantees that every meaningful detail, every smile, and every memory is documented, giving you peace of mind that nothing has been overlooked.
